It’s time to have tough conversations. Conversations that many conservatives are beginning to run away from, especially after what happened during the midterms. Republicans, though doing well in local politics and managing to win back the House, struggled during the 2022 election to convince people that protecting the most vulnerable—the unborn—is worth their support. Meanwhile, the idea to extend abortion access passed in all instances. This has conservatives back to the drawing board—thus, we will do the same.
Is it worth talking about social issues? Do conservatives have the losing arguments when it comes to issues like abortion, LGBTQ, race, children, gender, sexuality, the environment, etcetera? That depends on *who* you are talking to. Why do I say that? You may recall an article published last February where I directly called out the secularization of conservatives. Then, in the summer, we spoke on the secularization of the church, given that only 17% of Christians claim to have a biblical worldview, with under 40% of pastors claiming to have such a paradigm. Indeed, those who claim to have reverence for the sovereignty of the Bible have become a dying breed. If you ask those conservatives, they will tell you that having such a worldview is a dead end. Additionally, as the data suggest, many “Christians” (I say that loosely) would probably concur that the biblical stance on issues like homosexuality is outdated and offensive. They will proclaim it is time to turn the page to get with the times. This is where I say, “Not so fast.”
Is it fair to say that conservatives have lost the culture war on the majority of these social issues? Yes. Is it fair to say that both theological conservatives and public officials who claim to have a conservative worldview based on Christianity have done a miserable job of educating the public on why God created such boundaries in society? Yes. However, does the failure of man equate to a Christ-centered paradigm being outdated? Does it mean, if I stand firm in the belief that a woman should not be a pastor, that I stand for a baseless, patriarchal tradition intended to oppress and diminish the role of women in the church? Yet I also passionately believe that a man does not have to act more feminine, nor a woman more masculine, in order to have a valued role in society. Is this what modern conservatives want to abandon for the sake of winning future elections? Conservatives can continue down this path, and they may win more brownie points in popularity; however, what is that worth to the soul?
I have written enough articles calling conservatives out. It is time to do what we started with the “Smaller Government” series, which will resume officially next week. This Cultural Blueprint series will go in conjunction with the Smaller Government in a tag-team scenario, alternating weekly. Changes within our own government should and will be discussed; however, the changes I propose will not matter if we have a corrupt, godless society. That is why here on Taboo Topic, I’ll be working on giving you, the reader, a “Cultural Blueprint” from which to boldly play offense and present that vision. It is important to reevaluate the roles of men and women in the church, home, and community. We must rethink the mainstream school of thought on a variety of issues, such as sexuality (reexamining the sexual revolution); romance; marriage; parenthood; divorce; race; etcetera. Why? Why not just focus on fiscal policies?
The reality is that a corrupt government is a reflection of a corrupt people, especially in a republic such as ours, where the people have the power to govern themselves. The citizens rely on each other to be accountable, with the government being the last resort. In other words, if we don’t want to live in a time where we have adults that find it appropriate to give their children hormone blockers, then it starts with *our* hearts. What have we personally done to “be the change we wish to see?” It is my belief that if we are going to get back to a place where the stance that “there only two genders” is accepted as truth by the majority, it starts with examining our own hearts and repenting. We have failed God, but there is perseverance and redemption. God’s way is the *only* way for a healthy society to exist. In fact, an atheist could read the Bible and see how prone humanity is to corrupting God’s good! The sins that are being committed now are no different from the times of the Old Testament—the news travels faster, that’s all! That makes Christianity more true than ever. It makes the Bible worth defending. God is perfect; therefore I trust His truth. His truth is offensive to sin, but not outdated. It’s time for conservatives who claim Christianity to go back to the basics—starting with this series.
